SAT Tutor Program

introduction

Welcome to our SAT Tutor Program, designed to give high school students the competitive edge they need to excel on the SAT. Our program offers comprehensive English and Math modules, guided by experienced instructors who provide personalized attention in small class sizes. Students benefit from 24-hour online support, weekly progress reports, and an array of resources, including a detailed SAT booklet and a complete stationery kit. We also offer specialized Desmos calculator training to enhance problem-solving skills for the digital SAT. By joining our program, students not only improve their SAT scores but also gain confidence and mastery over test-taking strategies, ensuring they are well-prepared for their academic future. Students can first attend a free trial session to connect with our instructors and experience the program first-hand.

Time & location

Students can choose to attend online or in-person classes for a total of 24 hours of class time. Students can choose to attend 4 hour classes (from 10 AM to 2 PM) for 6 sessions, or 3 hours classes (from 11 AM to 2 PM) for 8 sessions.

Online classes can begin early in the summer if the student wishes to start immediately.

In-person classes begin in September 2024 at North Bay High School, where one class is conducted per week on the weekends. We do have some flexibility with class times so please don’t hesitate to contact us and arrange a class time that works for you.

Free trial session

We offer a 1-hour free session of our program to students who are interested. This session is held online on Fridays from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM EST. By signing up through our registration form, we will send a pre-assessment to test the student’s current skill level with SAT problems. This test is not mandatory to complete, but the 1-hour session will cover the contents presented on the test. The instructor will discuss various ways to attempt each problem, go step-by-step, and answer any questions the students may have. In this session, the student can also express any doubts, concerns, or inquiries regarding the SAT Tutor Program in general and gauge whether this program is a good fit for them.

This program is primarily designed for high school students (Grades 9 to 12). After the trial session, students can decide whether they wish to enroll in our SAT program.

Desmos Training

In recent years, Desmos has been integrated into the SAT as part of the calculator tools available to students. Specifically:

  • Digital SAT: On the digital version of the SAT, the Desmos calculator is embedded in the test interface. This allows students to use Desmos for graphing and solving complex math problems during the test.
  • Preparation: Many students use Desmos to prepare for the SAT math section because of its powerful graphing and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Practice Tests: Practice tests and other SAT prep materials often encourage students to familiarize themselves with Desmos, given its availability during the test.

For students unfamiliar with Desmos, we offer an additional class (2 hours) that teaches students how to use Desmos to its full potential. The class time is flexible and this workshop would incur an additional cost.
